From My Notes App: Local Travel, Mini Skorts, Facebook, and Other Things
I literally copy and pasted this from my Notes App
Hi Y’all
Summer has been SO busy, and I have not had time to write as much as I’d like, so while I'm in the midst of writing other posts, I thought I’d share some random thoughts and things from life latelyyyy.
Northeast Excursions
All of my travel this summer has been fairly local, and while I do love faraway adventures, it has been fun exploring the NorthEast!
Said trips included: Acadia National Park, Jersey Shore, Boston, and Philly.
At the beginning of July, my family and I took a road trip up to Maine where we hiked around Acadia National Park, swam, fished, kayaked, and explored the local towns. One of my favorite moments of the trip was whale watching. We were about 40 miles out on the ocean, just us and the whales, it was magical.
About a week after I got back from Maine, my friend Patricia and I took a trip down to the Jersey Shore and stayed with her family for the weekend. On our last day, we paddle-boarded (which I have been dying to do all summer) and it was so much fun! Since it was my first time, it took a sec to get comfortable standing on the board, but once I found my balance it was so seamless.
At the end of July, I trekked up to Boston to visit my lifelong bestie, Malena. We went to this cool restaurant in Back Bay called Lolita which had this sexy-vampire-gothic vibe. Our complimentary starter was a palette cleanser of shaved ice, grapefruit juice, and tequila. The food was amazing, and then we got complimentary cotton candy to go with our check. One of my fav moments in that trip was how she and I spent our Saturday night - crafting and watching a movie <3
To continue the trend of weekend trips with friends, I got to see Sierra (my former-work-wife-turned- bestie) last weekend in Philly! It was a super chill weekend of quality time, shopping, wine nights, and takeout. We went mini-golfing one of the nights and can both agree that neither of us would make it on the Olympic mini-golfing team (if that existed).
I like that I didn't need to travel far and wide this summer to feel fulfilled in my adventures. All of these little trips were so wonderful and offered their own new and unique experiences. Getting quality time with the people I love is all I can ask for.
So next time you’re dying to get out of town, don't be afraid to explore places close by!
Facebook is an Actual Hellhole.
I opened up Facebook the other day, something I don't do very often, and I almost instantly regretted it. My emotional and mental well-being went on a journey.
First I saw one of those weird 5-minute craft videos of someone making DIY flip flops by taping cardboard to the bottom of their feet and drawing on straps with a sharpie…like, that has to be satire, right?
A little farther down in my scroll, I saw posts by random people from my high school who have likely never stepped foot outside of the East Coast, potentially even the tri-state area, vocalizing their questionable political opinions. It truly took everything in me not to refute their posts.
And then I decided to quickly get out of the app after stumbling on several strange memes and articles people reposted.
I swear Facebook is a place for the worst and weirdest sides of humanity, I felt like I needed a spiritual cleanse after that scroll.
Summer is for Mini Skorts
I have always loved the flirty and flattering look of mini skirts, but I'm personally not trying to show everyone my ass as I ascend the subway steps or catch a gust of wind as I cross Houston Street.
Solution: mini skorts.
I’m SO happy they've made a comeback, and I think I can thank the trend of tennis skirts for that. I literally have the same skirt in 3 different colors.
They’re so easy to dress up or down - you can pair them with a graphic tee and sneakers, or a dressy top with heels - effortless, chic, and easy! I could wear one every day and make my outfits look completely different each time.
Additional side note, based on personal experience - I suggest you inform someone you're hooking up with that the shorts are attached to the skirt, otherwise they will likely be very confused.
Out and About in the City
I think I found my new favorite yoga studio in NYC. A few weeks ago I went to Baby Cobra in Williamsburg (they also have a Bushwick location), for their Yang flow class. Yang-style yoga classes are typically rooted in holding stretches, and my god I needed that. In addition to the studio being donation-based (shoutout to accessible, affordable yoga), I loved how organic the space was, it felt more centered around the practice of yoga rather than attempting to monopolize. So yeah, I will absolutely be going back soon!
One of my favorite things ever is stumbling on live music. A couple of my friends and I went to this live music pop-up at Fringe Salon in LES a few Thursdays ago! I honestly didn’t know what to expect, but I was so pleasantly surprised by the event. The music was performed by Baba Israel, where he and the accompanying musicians freestyle rapped. I was so impressed by how they could just rhyme on the spot like that. A couple weeks later I went to Lucky Dog for drinks with my friend and a bluegrass/jazz group was playing. They were so good! Coincidentally I had met the pianist a week prior while he was playing solo at a restaurant, so when I walked into Lucky Dog we both had a moment of “Oh! I've seen you before”.
I finally got a haircut! I went to Rob Peetoom in Williamsburg and they were so lovely there! I haven't gotten my hair cut since November, so I was LONG overdue. I got about 4 or 5 inches off, and little curtain bangs. I love how refreshing a new haircut feels. The moment I walked out of the salon I felt like a changed woman and the streets of Williamsburg were my runway.
For the sake of not making this post longer than it is, I will save more thoughts and updates for a future post!
But before I conclude, I have to share some of my on-repeat songs as of late, because sharing music is my love language:
Okay, have a lovely Friday everyone!!
I love your cadence and writing style. It takes me out of my head, and I feel like I’m experiencing everything you are. Keep writing; you are amazing. Thanks for sharing parts of your life with us. I'm definitely investing in a mini skort!
